City Council recognizes longtime staff, presents proceeds from Gerry Cormier Charity Golf Tournament
A number of presentations were made by Mayor Adam Lordon on behalf of the City at the Regular Council Meeting on Tuesday, December 17th, 2024.
The first set of presentations were to the recipients of the proceeds from the Gerry Cormier Memorial Charity Golf Tournament organized by City Staff and held each summer. The recipients are:

Acknowledgement of Milestone Years of Service and Long Service Awards
The following members of City Staff were recognized for their years of service. Those with 30 years of service were presented with a certificate. The others were acknowledged by Mayor Lordon.
30 Years of Service
Lee Matchett started as a firefighter with the City of Miramichi in 1995. He worked his away up through the ranks to the position of Captain with the City of Miramichi`s Fire Department, a position he currently holds.
Jay Shanahan was hired in 1994 by the former Town of Newcastle. In 1995 he was hired by the City of Miramichi as a machine operator with the Department of Public Works and moved up through the ranks. In 2012 he was promoted to Director of Public Works the position he currently holds.
Lucille Lynch was hired in 1994 by the former Town of Newcastle. In 1995 she joined the City of Miramichi and worked as Aquatics Co-ordinator with the Department of Community Wellness and Recreation. She held various positions over the years. In 2017, she returned to her position as 911 Dispatcher with the City of Miramichi Police Department, a position she currently holds.
Dwayne Somers was hired in 1994 as a Labourer by the former Town of Newcastle and joined the City of Miramichi in 1995. In 1999, he moved into the position of Machine Operator with the Public Works Department. In 2022 he moved to a Fleet Foreman position he currently holds.
Chris Corcoran was hired in 1994 as a Caretaker by the former Town of Chatham and joined the City of Miramichi in 1995. He has held various positions with the city, including Machine Operator and Water Treatment Operator with the Public Works Department. In 2018, he moved to the Recreation department as a Foreman, which is the position he currently holds.
15 Years of Service
Brenda Landry started as an Office Clerk in our Collections department at the Finance Department in City Hall in 2009. She held that position until December 2023 where she took over the position of Accounting Clerk. A position she currently holds.
Jennifer MacTavish was hired in 2009 as a 911 Dispatcher with the City of Miramichi Police Department, a position she currently holds.
Michael Kane was hired in 2009 as a 911 Dispatcher with the City of Miramichi Police Department, a position he currently holds.
Eric Pomerleau was hired in 2009 as a Constable with the City of Miramichi Police Department, which he holds that position currently. ‘
William O’Kane was hired in 2009 as a System Administrator with the City of Miramichi. Over the years he worked out of the City of Miramichi building until 2015 he moved to the City of Miramichi Police Department as their System Administrator. He holds that position currently.
Chis Lewis was hired in 2009 as a Fire Fighter with the City of Miramichi Fire Department. He held this position until he transferred to the City of Miramichi Public Department as a Labourer in 2022. He holds that position currently.
Vincent Craik was hired in 2009 as a Machine Operator with the City of Miramichi Public Works department. He holds that position currently.
Shannon Cable was hired in 2009 as an Office Clerk with the City of Miramichi Finance Department. She held this position until 2018 where she was awarded the Recreation Co-ordinator for Aquatics with the City of Miramichi Community Wellness and Recreation Department, which she holds currently.
10 Years of Service
Dustin Allison was hired in 2014 as a Fire Fighter with the City of Miramichi Fire Department. He holds this position currently.
Jason Brennan was hired in 2014 as a Fire Fighter with the City of Miramichi Fire Department. He holds this position currently.
Wally MacTavish was hired in 2014 as a Fire Fighter with the City of Miramichi Fire Department. He holds this position currently.
Christopher Hogan was hired in 2011 as a Part Time Constable with the City of Miramichi Police Department. In 2014 he was awarded Full Time Constable until 2021 where he was awarded Corporal position. He holds this position currently.
Bradley Stewart was hired in 2014 as a Maintenance Operator with the City of Miramichi Public Works Department. He held that position until 2018 where he was awarded the Water Treatment Plant Operator position. He holds this position currently.
Dustin Ashton was hired in 2014 as a Machine Operator with the City of Miramichi Public Works Department. He holds his position currently.
Gerard Doyle was hired in 2014 as a Maintenance Worker with the City of Miramichi Community Wellness and Recreation Department. Gerard holds this position currently.
5 Years of Service
Marc Leblanc was hired in 2019 as a Full Time Fire Fighter with the City of Miramichi Fire Department. The position he currently holds.
Neil Fitzgerald was hired in 2016 as a Part Time Police Constable with the City of Miramichi Police Department. He held this position until he was promoted to Full Time Constable in 2019. A position he currently holds.
Kerry Gill was hired in 2019 as a Part Time Police Constable with the City of Miramichi Police Department. He held this position until he was promoted to Full Time Constable in 2020. A position he currently holds.
Grant Fiander was hired in 2019 as a Full Time Police Constable with the City of Miramichi Police Department. He remained as Constable until 2024 where he was promoted as a Corporal. He holds this position currently.
Charles Beaudin was hired in 2019 as a Machine Operator with the City of Miramichi Public Works Department. A position he currently holds.
Richard Lyons was hired in 2019 as a Machine Operator with the City of Miramichi Public Works Department. A position he currently holds.
Brent Jardine was hired in 2019 as a Machine Operator with the City of Miramichi Public Works Department. A position he currently holds.
Keith Astle was hired in 2019 as a Building Systems Coordinator with the City of Miramichi. Keith holds his position currently.
Dayton Pratt was hired in 2019 as a Manager of Recreation Operations with the Community Wellness and Recreation Department. A position he currently holds.
Presentation of Long Service Medal Bars
New Brunswick Fire Service Awards
The New Brunswick Fire Service Awards was introduced by the province to show its sincere appreciation of the number of years the member has served for courageous and faithful service to the citizens of the province of New Brunswick in protecting their lives and property from fire. The New Brunswick Fire Service Long Service Medal is awarded to fire service members who have been involved in fire fighting, fire prevention and/or fire investigation for 25 years or more.
Dale R. Mattinson - 35 years New Brunswick Long Service Award
Dale started as a volunteer firefighter which was then the village of Loggieville on December 18th of 1988. During 1994 Dale was promoted to Fire Chief of the Loggieville Fire Department. After amalgamation Dale Mattinson was named District Fire Chief of our Loggieville Station 3 which he continues to serve our community proudly today.
Lee Matchett - 35 years New Brunswick Long Service Award
Lee started with the town of Chatham in 1988 as a Volunteer Firefighter. In 1992 he was hired as a Part time Firefighter until the city amalgamated in 1995, where he was then hired as a full-time firefighter. In 2012, Lee was promoted to Captain. Lee continues to serve the city in capacity as Captain of A Platoon working out of our station 1 in Newcastle.
Stephen Loggie - 35 years New Brunswick Long Service Award
Almost a year to the day, both Dale and Stephen became volunteer firefighters with the village of Loggieville. Stephen native to the Point aux Carr area joined the fire service with the village of Loggieville Fire Department in December of 1988, he continues to serve proudly at our Loggieville Station 3 to this day.
Darren A. Hambrook - 35 years New Brunswick Long Service Award
Darren joined the Renous Quarryville Volunteer Fire Department in 1989 at the age of 16. Due to the 18 years age limit his years of service didn’t start until 1991 in which he held the position of volunteer firefighter until 2000. In 2008 he joined the Sunny Corner Fire Department as a volunteer firefighter and was promoted to Captain in 2017. In 2019 he became Fire Chief of the Sunny Corner Fire Department. On the 1st of November 2021 he joined the ranks of Miramichi Fire as a full time Fire Prevention Officer delivering on inspections and public education which he continues to this day.
Acknowledgement of Retirees
Anna Dean was hired in February 1983 as Recreation Secretary with the former Town of Newcastle Recreation Department. She was later promoted to the position of Administrative Supervisor with the Department. Upon amalgamation in January 1995, she became the Administrative Supervisor for the Community Wellness and Recreation Department with the City of Miramichi the position she currently held until retirement. She retired on February 1, 2024.
Peggy Doyle was hired in September 1994 by former Village of Nelson and in 1995 joined the City of Miramichi where she worked in various departments until July 2007 when she assumed the position of Executive Assistant to the Mayor and Manager, the position she currently holds until she retired on March 31, 2024.
Paul Fiander was hired in 1995 as a police constable and has worked his way up through the ranks to the position of Chief of Police which he held until he retired on June 1, 2024.
Mary Savage was hired in 2012 as Director of Human Resources for the City of Miramichi. She worked in that position for 12 years until she retired on June 1, 2024.
Dean Gallant was hired in 1994 as a Labourer by the former Town of Chatham and in 1995 joined the City of Miramichi and held various positions with CW&R and the Public Works department. In 2008, he moved to the position of Caretaker, a position he currently hold until he retired on October 1, 2024.
