Miramichi City Council approved the City of Miramichi’s 2025 budget at a special public council meeting on December 10^th. Council held three days of public deliberations on November 19^th, November 26^th, and December 3^rd before adopting the final budget on December 10^th.

The City’s residential tax rate will remain the same at 1.715 per $100 assessment.

At a Special Council Meeting held on November 26th, 2024, Miramichi City Council approved a motion to lease space in the Chatham Town Centre for the temporary location of the Chatham Public Library.

Due to uncontrollable circumstances, Phases 8 and 9 of the Newcastle Water System Upgrades project for Newcastle Boulevard will be postponed until the 2025 construction season.

The construction of the Miramichi Wellenss Complex is underway of Douglastown Boulevard. The facility will offer an 1860 seat arena, walking track, double gymnasium, 25m/6 lane competition pool, leisure pool as well as enhanced community spaces - all of which incorporate sustainable design features.

Miramichi City Council voted to amend the by-law relating to Sunday shopping in the municipality to now allow retailers to select their own hours of operation.

Mayor Adam Lordon was joined by Regional Development Corporation Minster Rejean Savoie and MLA Michelle Conroy to announce a number funding projects for the City. The announcements were made at Ritchie Wharf Park on Wednesday, August 7th.

The Miramichi Pickleball Club has received a City of Miramichi Community Development Grant to support the rapid growth of the game in the city.
