The Freeman of the City Award is the highest honour bestowed by the City of Miramichi, recognizing individuals who have made an extraordinary, long-term impact on our community through dedicated service.

What is the Freeman of the City Award?
This prestigious award acknowledges individuals who have devoted at least 15 years of service to the betterment of Miramichi in areas such as education, business, community service, heritage, media, and more. Their leadership and contributions have left a lasting mark on our city, and this award serves as a tribute to their dedication.

Who Can Be Nominated?
Nominees must meet the following criteria:
✔ A minimum of 15 years of dedicated service in one or more of the following fields:
Education & Learning
Business & Commercial
Politics
Community Service (for the sick, elderly, or disabled)
Religion
Recreation & Athletics
Heritage & Culture
Communication & Media
Community Development
✔A strong, identifiable impact in at least one additional category.
✔Their contributions must have benefited the community as a whole in a meaningful way.
Nomination Process
For 2025, nominations will be received from March 31st to April 30th, 2025. Going forward, nominations will be open until March 31st each year and must be submitted through the official nomination form. After careful review, the City Council will select up to two recipients per year, with the award ceremony taking place at a special event determined by the Council.
