First Nations and City partner to honour Truth and Reconciliation Day

The City of Miramichi will join with Esgenoopetitj, Metepenagiag, and Natoaganeg First Nations on Monday, September 30th to honour the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day.


The event will be held in Queen Elizabeth Park and will begin at 10 a.m. Elder and Traditional Knowledge Keeper Marie Kryszko of Oinpegitjoig First Nation will perform a hand drumming song and educational talk after leading the opening prayer and smudging.

Mayor Adam Lordon, Chief George Ginnish and Chief Bill Ward will speak at the event.


The community will take part in a walk around the park to the courtesy flag pole where the Every Child Matters flag will be raised. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to attend the event.


Miramichi City Hall and the city’s administration offices will be closed on Monday and will re-open on Tuesday, October 1st.
