City Council Highlights for August 13th

Miramichi City Council held a Special Council Meeting on August 13th, 2024. Minutes from the following meetings were approved:

Presentation

Mary Daley made a presentation on behalf of the residents of Lawlor Lane requesting weekly garbage pick-up due to the number of bears in the area.

New Business

City Council approved a motion to add the U13AAA and U15AAA Miramichi Rivermen hockey teams to the User Fee Subsldlzed lce Use Policy.

City Council approved a motion to award Tender 22-007F- Upgrades Phase 1 be awarded to GeniBuild Construction Ltd., in the amount of $ 1,917,050.00) HST included for upgrades to the HVAC systems at Miratech. This will include the removal of the existing cooling tower, installation of high efficiency rooftop mounted heat pumps, and upgrades and replacement to existing controls system. These upgrades are aimed at improving the operating efficiency and lifespan of the building with new equipment estimated to have a service life of 20 years.

City Council approved a motion for the City to purchase the property located at the northeast of King Street and Duke Street for a total cost of $98,527.88.

By-laws

City council approved the second and third readings to allow the property at 1265 King George Highway to be rezoned from residential low density to general commercial to allow G&G Brothers construct a motor vehicle dealership. They will be required to discuss the need for a traffic impact statement/study with the Director of Engineering, City of Miramichi, prior to any permit being issued for the proposed development.
