City Council Highlights for November 26th
At a Special Council Meeting held on November 26th, 2024, Miramichi City Council approved a motion to lease space in the Chatham Town Centre for the temporary location of the Chatham Public Library. The lease agreement will be for 24 to 30 months while options for the permanent replacement of the library are evaluated.
The Chatham Public Library was recently closed after being advised there were structural issues with the building.
A date for opening in the temporary location will be announced soon.
City Council approved a motion to the transfer of the following assets to the Discover Miramichi Destination Marketing Organizations Inc. as per the mandate of the Greater Miramichi Regional Service Commission to perform regional tourism marketing and promotion:
Discover Miramichi website and URL.
Discover Miramichi logos and branding standards.
List of tourism stakeholders and operators in the region.
Full administrative rights to Discover Miramichi Facebook and Instagram social media sites.
City Council also approved a motion to execute an agreement with the Greater Miramichi Regional Service Commission for City staff to prepare the Regional Tourism Guide for 2025.
A motion to award the tender for the Ritchie Wharf Waterfront Stage Replacement to GeniBuild Construction Ltd for $612,9500 was approved by City Council.
The work will include demolition and cleanup of the existing wooden covered structure and wooden dance floor area at Ritchie Wharf Waterfront. This would be followed by the construction of a new covered dance floor and stage area. City Engineer Mark Buckingham said the work will be completed by April 2025.
