Presentations
Paul MacKinnon of Adventures in Miramichi (AIM) made a presentation about their youth programming and search for a location to offer the programming.
New Business
City Council approved a motion to award Tender 24-010 - Prince Street Reconstruction to Vye Construction and Paving Ltd. in the amount of $347,235.66, HST included. The work will include a reconstruction of underground services and road surfaces for Prince Street from Millar Avenue to Sweeney Lane. It will include water, storm, sanitary infrastructure as well as the road surface and restoration work. The work is expected to begin in August and will be completed over four weeks.
City Council approved a motion to begin the process of amending By-Law 74 - A By-Law Relating to Sunday Shopping in the Municipality of Miramichi to allow retail businesses to determine their own hours of operation.
City Council approved a motion for the City of Miramichi to donate a fire engine recently removed from service to NBCC Firefighter School for training purposes. The fire engine will act as a training aid between the Miramichi Fire Department and the school.
June 11th Special Council Meeting
City Council approved a motion for the City of Miramichi to allocate $30,000 from contingency for homeless initiatives. The funding will assist with files related to the establishment of a community advisory board and ongoing dialogue with the province and city groups regarding specific initiatives. Council will be provide a memo outlining each expenditure as it occurs.
City Council approved a motion for the City of Miramichi to execute a lease agreement with Calico Cafe Inc. for the operation of a seasonal canteen/restaurant at Middle Island Historical Park in accordance with the terms set out in Management Report No. CWR-2024-008. Those terms include a two-year contract with an option to renew for up to 3 years, operate from June 1st to October 1st, seven days a week from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. The washrooms will be available to the public and maintained by Calico Cafe Inc. The City will be responsible for maintenance of restaurant equipment and replacement costs, building maintenance.
City Council passed the first reading by Title of By-Law No. 109-22 and By-Law No. 110-34 to amend the property at 1265 King George Highway from residential to commercial to enable the development of a motor vehicle dealership on the property.
A Public Presentation for the plan amendment will be held on June 25th at 6 p.m. and a Public Hearing will be held on July 30th at 6 p.m.
June 25th Public Presentation and Council in Committee Meeting
A public presentation to amend the property at 1265 King George Highway from residential to commercial to enable the development of a motor vehicle dealership on the property was presented by the Greater Miramichi Regional Service Commission’s Planning and Building Service. A public hearing is scheduled for July 30th at 6 p.m.
City Council heard a presentation from resident John McKay on a request to restore ownership of water easements on Lawlor Lane acquired by the former Town of Newcastle.
City Council tabled a request from the New Brunswick Aviation Museum for a request of a $20,000 donation.
City Council tabled a decision on the paving of 2.8 kilometres on Islandview Drive to the July 2nd Special Council Meeting to allow staff to obtain further information on funding.
Community Wellness and Recreation Director Jason Walsh presented an update on plans for the Memorial Field / Harkins Hub 2024 Project.
