City Council approves 2025 Street Resurfacing Program

Miramichi City Council has approved a motion to have the following streets or portions of streets to be included in the 2025 Street Resurfacing Program. Tenders for the paving projects will be issued soon by the Department of Engineering.

NORTH

1. Creaghan Avenue - Excavate & Pave - $ 155,000

2. Bannon Road - Pulverize & Pave - $ 200,000

3. Tardy Avenue - Asphalt Milling & Pave - $ 165,000

4, Durick Street - McGrath Cres. to Route B - Asphalt Milling & Pave - $ 55,000

5. Farrer Crescent - Overlay - $ 65,000

6. Aitken Avenue - McWilliam Street to cul-de-sac - Asphalt Milling & Pave - $ 130,000

7. Crocker Crescent - Overlay - $ 30,000

8. River Street & Piper Court - Pulverize & Pave - $ 95,000

SOUTH

1. Water Street - St. Andrews St. to Civic 2762 - Asphalt Milling & Pave - $ 240,000

2, Johnson Avenue - Hotel Dieu St. to Church St. - Overlay - $65,000

3. Barrieau Street - Andrew St. to Raymond St. - Pulverize & Pave - $ 145,000

4. Wallace Road - Civic 30 to Civic 68 - Pulverize & Pave - $200,000

5. Water Street - Tozer Ave. to Civic 2706 - Pulverize & Pave - $305,000

5. Bremner Drive - Cedar St. to LeBreton Dr. - Pulverize & Pave - $ 150,000

The estimated total for the work above is $2,000,000

The City of Miramichi has 225 kilometers of roadway, not including the provincial designated highways. The Department of Engineering reviews and rates each street biannually utilizing software called Total Pave to analyze road conditions.

The selection process for asphalt paving incorporates several considerations which include but are not limited to: 

  • Centennial Bridge Closure, the expected bridge closure is a key contributor to Engineering's recommendations.

  • street designation

  • traffic volume

  • street condition

  • underground infrastructure condition

  • maintenance costs

  • street cross section and profile

  • PSAB 3150 and 3160 (asset management) compliance

  • Other (development considerations, planning, funding opportunities)
