Online Safety, Frauds/Scams

  • Ensure your system is up to date and you have the latest security software. 

  • Use a different password for each website along with a strong password.

  • Abstain from unknown links or downloading attachments from unfamiliar sources. 

  • Do not share personal information.

  • Do not share banking information.

  • Refrain from accessing bank accounts from a public computer. 

  • Do not accept friend requests from strangers.

  • Block and report any suspicious activity.

  • Shred any documents with personal information that are of no further use.

  • When making an online purchase use a secure method of payment.

  • Keep an eye on your bank account for any suspicious transactions. 

  • If something sounds too good to be true it probably is. 

Protecting Your Business

  • Install surveillance cameras and ensure they are in working order. 

  • Keep your business well lit.

  • Check that all windows and doors are locked when closing your business along with security alarms activated.

  • Ensure that all employees are familiar with your security system and its importance. 

  • Make regular checks of your business exterior for anything suspicious and report any findings. 

Vehicle Protection 

  • Try to park in a well-lit area when your vehicle will be unoccupied.

  • Never leave your vehicle unlocked or running when unattended.

  • Keep your valuables out of sight.

  • Don’t leave Keys in the vehicle even with the doors locked. 

  • Be cautious of your surroundings when returning to an unattended vehicle.

Child Protection

  • Know where your child is going when they leave your residence and make sure they will be supervised.

  • Teach your child safety practices and how to recognize a possible dangerous situation.

  • Promote an open dialog with your children and encourage them to share their experiences with you and any concerns they may have.

  • Keep a list of your child’s friends with their phone numbers.

  • Ensure your children know the importance of not accepting gifts or drives from strangers.

  • Conduct a check on babysitters and caregivers that will be entrusted with your child’s safety.

  • Get to know your neighborhood and who is living in it. 

  • Become familiar with any possible dangers in your community, traffic/drugs/crime, and educate your child. 

  • Make it your business to know who your child is communicating with online and follow their internet activity. 

  • Educate your child on never opening the door for a stranger, not all bad people look bad.

  • Travel in groups not alone. 

Protecting Your Home and Yourself

  • Install an in home security/camera system.

  • Keep the exterior of your home well lit. 

  • Form a neighborhood watch.  

  • Keep your doors and windows locked.

  • Set timers on your lights to have them come on when you are away from your home. 

  • Avoid walking/jogging alone at night in an unfamiliar area.

  • Always carry a cell phone and be familiar with emergency contact numbers. 

  • Never leave a drink unattended.
