PUBLIC NOTICE - WINTER PARKING ADVISORY

Please be advised that the City of Miramichi Police Department will be enforcing By-Law No. 55, A By-Law of the City of Miramichi to Regulate Traffic, Parking and the Use of Streets, regulates the parking of vehicles on City of Miramichi Streets as well as relevant section of the Highway Act. Residents should be aware of the following:

IT IS AN OFFENCE:

To park on any street from November 1st to April 15th between midnight and 7 a.m. or upon any street at any time so as to interfere with snowplowing operations or other street maintenance. Violators are advised that vehicles may be ticketed and/or towed without notice. The vehicle owner would be liable for the payment of any fine and any towing or impounding costs.

UNDER THE HIGHWAY ACT:

69(1) A person commits an offence who

(a) erects, places, puts or maintains any building, structure, gasoline pump, lumber, logs, stones, refuse, snow or other encumbrance or obstruction over or upon any highway.

THE FOLLOWING STEPS WILL BE CARRIED OUT DURING A STORM:

Step 1: OPEN the streets for emergency vehicular traffic (ambulance, fire and police).

Step 2: CLEAR and WIDEN the driving surface to the edge of the road or curb.

Step 3: SAND and/or SALT as required. It should be noted that extreme cold limits the effectiveness of sand or salt. Drivers should take extra care.
