Newcastle Water System flushing set to begin Saturday, April 20

The City of Miramichi will be carrying out uni-directional flushing in the Newcastle Water System beginning Saturday, April 20, 2024 and continuing to Friday, April 26, 2024.
The flushing is part of the annual flushing program that is carried out yearly.
Due to the recent circumstances, the dates have been moved up to help remove sediments left in the system from the recent water disruption that occurred on April 10, 2024.
The flushing will be carried out daily from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The flushing pattern is as follows:
1)    Miramichi Valley High School
2)    Beaver Brook Road
3)    Newcastle Boulevard from Cross Road to McKenna Avenue
4)    McKenna Avenue to High Plain Crescent area
5)    David, Stothart, Flynn, Gerald Streets
6)    Sunnyside Avenue
7)    Newcastle Boulevard from Mckenna Avenue to Grandview Avenue
8)    Lawlor Lane area and mini home park
9)    Old King George Highway including a portion of King George Highway
10)  Hillside Drive and area

The flushing pattern identifies just the main streets, but all streets will be flushed in the area (zone).
Residences will experience dirty water at first but the frequency will reduce as the flushing is completed in the area and as the crews advance forward.
Dirty water is unpredictable so during the flushing please be aware of that possibility during the flushing hours of 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.
It is recommended that laundry should be done after the flushing hours. Please check water quality prior to ensure the water is clear.
During the flushing in your area please minimize the use of hot water. If there is any sediment, it will remain in the hot water tank and the tank will require flushing to clear.
When water is restored, it is recommended to clean the screen in your taps.
Once flushing is completed run your tub cold water only to clear any remaining discolouration for 3 to 5 minutes.
Flushing starts at the water tower behind Miramichi Valley High School and crews work their way into the water system. This method allows clean water to be brought forward to each zone.
The time frame to complete a zone is hard to predict as the time required to clear the water will vary.
Some minor adjustment to the plan may be required if unforeseen issues occur. There will be updates as the flushing progresses.
