Criminal Investigations Division

Version Française

Sergeant Jody Whyte is the Non-Commissioned Officer (NCO) in charge of the Criminal Investigations Division.  He reports directly to the Deputy Chief of Police.  The Division is tasked to investigate major crime such as homicide/deaths, robberies, assaults, break and enters, frauds, arson etc.  The division is also involved in the Alternative Measure program of Young Persons and Adult Offenders. Three full time detective constables are assigned to investigations, two are assigned to the Drug Section, and one is assigned as Criminal Intelligence Officer.  Together, these members are responsible for collecting and disseminating criminal intelligence and drug detection and enforcement.  They liaise with other law enforcement agencies and with the business community in the development and implementation of workshops and information sessions dealing with break and enter, theft, counterfeiting, fraud, and other community educational programs.

The Court Section is an important aspect of the Criminal Investigations Division.  It consists of a Court Secretary and a Constable who is the Court Officer responsible for the laying of charges and liaison with the Courts (Crown and Judges).  A Corporal is the Chief Reader and the Court Coordinator, responsible for investigative file quality control. The Corporal also performs the task of Exhibit Custodian.
